A solo-show about dating, religion, and identity

OVERVIEW

What would you do if you grew up in a conservative Jewish household but then fall in love with someone non-Jewish? Also, did you know that reindeer are real animals? With comedic and poignant anecdotes, I take you through my process of discovery. How can we honor our past and our future?

PRODUCTION HISTORY

My Shiksa Boyfriend is a solo show in development that I've been working on since January 2018. After taking a solo show workshop with Seth Barrish (Mike Birbiglia's The New One on Broadway), I began workshopping the script with my dramaturge and director Sidse Ploug Soerensen culminating in a staged reading at the TBG Studio Theater in August 2018.

The next version was performed in October 2018 during a sold-out run at New Yiddish Rep's studio theater in midtown. The show received a wonderful review from Oppauld.com.

My Shiksa Boyfriend then performed, with additional direction by Stephen Singer, in an off-broadway house for one night (TBG Mainstage) in February 2019 produced by Christine Cirker.

A workshop staged reading, directed by Quinn Vogt-Welch, was done in February 2020.

The script was developed further with dramaturgy guidance from Seth Barrish and Martin Moran. It is now in development with Kervigo Ensemble Theater and had its first official fulled produced performance run in October 2021.

The production team was as follows:

  • Produced by Kervigo Ensemble Theater at The Tank

  • Directed by Christine Cirker

  • Lighting Design by K.A. Rudolph

  • Stage Managed by Glenn Girón

My Shiksa Boyfriend was remounted for the prestigious United Solo Festival 2022 in October 2022 at Theater Row. Directed by Christine Cirker and Produced by Kervigo Ensemble Theater.
